Current Microsoft Sales Promotions on Dynamics GP
Microsoft, like a lot of public companies, is a very sales driven company. They run sales promotions all the time as an attempt to drive sales revenue, especially at quarter ends or at year end.
Microsoft's challenge is that they don't directly sell Microsoft Dynamics GP to customers - Microsoft Dynamics GP is sold through Microsoft's partner network of independent companies. So Microsoft can't control the pricing of the software - Microsoft's partner network has the authority to sell Dynamics GP at whatever price they see fit. As a result, Microsoft's partner network doesn't have to tell their customers about Microsoft's promotions, even though it may save the customer a lot of money.
In fact, Microsoft's partner network isn't usually incentivized to tell their customer about a Microsoft promotion because their commission from Microsoft is often substantially reduced by the Microsoft promotion. So it puts Microsoft partners in a tough spot - do we tell our customer about a Microsoft promotion, and save them a lot of money, or do we sell sell them the software at "list price" and make a lot bigger commission from Microsoft? It can be a tough spot to put Microsoft partners in. So customers looking to buy Dynamics GP need to be careful.
